We got to attend my mom's final performance with the Tabernacle Choir. Conference just won't be the same without playing the game "Where's Grandma"! She and dad sacrificed so many things to be the ultimate examples for all of us of humble, obedient servants.
We played and played every second we got with the Irion family, which included lots of cousin time, and a week in our favorite spot on earth- Lake Powell.
Dad added the title President to his list of names on Father's day, which is only appropriate as he learns to love, lead, and teach 100's of missionaries in Knoxville, TN who one by one, become like sons and daughters to my parents. They are so awesome, it's only fair that we should have to share them!
My thoughtful brothers each got a special tie that they wore on their missions, & gave it to my dad before he embarked on his.
Elder Jeffrey R Holland perfectly summed up how this (5%) bitter-sweet (95%) experience of missionary service has affected our family:
"Those little darlings (meaning the grandchildren in their absence) will be just fine. And I promise you will do things for them in the service of the Lord that, worlds without end, you could never do if you stayed home to hover over them.
"What greater gift could grandparents give their posterity than to say by deed as well as word,
'In this family, we serve missions!'

What the WHAT?!?!?! You are awesome, Katie. I can't wait for more. You just made me homesick for Dad, with that awesome picture of him in the backyard. Weird!
Does that mean I have to get back to posting, too? Shoot.
Hooray for an update! This totally makes me miss your parents! What fun memories though.
